Query: Is God Realisation the Real Goal of Human Life?

Vijay Kumar:
Let me remind you that the journey of self realization is not a piece of cake one can choose from a variety of spread outs. We do not have a choice... the path is totally unknown... whom we call our near and dear ones are left on the way... you become a lone stranger in your spiritual pursuit of life. On the journey you may not find even one soul proceeding on the path. It is only one or two persons at the most in billions who proceed on the path of self realization and that too in a period of about hundred years or so.

In the last 150 years only Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana realized God. They wanted to do it within their lifetime and were successful. Swami Vivekananda... the revered disciple of Ramakrishna Paramhansa never pursued self realization as the goal of his life... he in fact desired the well being of the poor and the downtrodden. He spent his life doing that. It is not that he did not relish the path undertaken by his Spiritual master Ramakrishna Paramhansa... but he knew that he had to have a different goal in his life.

In the initial stages of his spiritual pursuits when he came across Ramakrishna Paramhansa... Swami Vivekananda desired having a darshan of God, and Almighty Creator. He was not prepared for anything else other than having a direct darshan of God Almighty before pursuing any form of spiritual practice. Ramakrishna Paramhansa tried hard that it was a difficult wish but as Swami Vivekananda had a bulldog determination... Ramakrishna Paramhansa ultimately succumbed to his wishes. He laid his leg on the shoulders of Swami Vivekananda. The moment this happened Swami Vivekananda was in a state of deep shock. He did not know what was happening but he desired at all costs to remain in the same stage of illusion.

What had ultimately happened was that by Ramakrishna Paramhansa keeping his leg on Swami Vivekananda's shoulder made him reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi for a given moment of time? Swami Vivekananda experienced the best moments of his life... he was face-to-face with God Almighty. The moment Ramakrishna Paramhansa removed his leg he was so disturbed that he ultimately made Ramakrishna Paramhansa keep the leg again on his shoulders. For quite some time Swami Vivekananda enjoyed this state of absolute bliss.

It was then and there that Swami Vivekananda decided that his journey of search for a Spiritual master was complete. He promised Ramakrishna Paramhansa that he would remain his most favored pupil forever. Ramakrishna Paramhansa who had divinity within him also realized that whatever Swami Vivekananda was stating was truth and accepted him as his favored pupil. Ramakrishna Paramhansa was right for Swami Vivekananda never backtracked on his assurances.

Wanting to proceed on the path of self realization is something like a child while strolling in the market along with his parents desires for anything he sets his eyes on. In the case of Spirituality... desires and wants do not play much part. We need to firmly decide the goal of life. Only then one can vigorously proceed on the path of pure Spirituality as an earnest seeker. Wanting to reach the stage of self realization is like becoming a Buddha in ones lifetime... not a simple task indeed.

In present times it is said by many that it is extremely difficult to follow the path advocated by Mahatma Gandhi... what to say of becoming a Swami Vivekananda in this life. And to reach the status of Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharishi Ramana or a Buddha is beyond thinking. Those of us whom ever feel it this way are absolutely correct. For it is not within the will of an ordinary mortal to become a Buddha in his lifetime and especially in the present Kali Yuga the metal age.

In Kali Yuga (the present metal age) everyone is inclined towards materialistic goals in life. All desire fulfillment of their wanton desires. None wants to pursue Spirituality as the goal of their life. All of us know our limitations! Why hope for a goal we never shall be able to achieve in present lifetime. Your desire to take care of your parents is a materialistic desire. In the field of Spirituality and particularly on the path to self realization you shall have to abandon your family members at a certain stage in life. One cannot do without it... it is a must for sooner we near the Nirvikalpa Samadhi stage... we do not distinguish between different human beings.

All become one for us. Everyone... every living being is like children of God for us. Even animals and insects are prone to harm by us. We even take care of the plant life for we have realized that we had ourselves lived that stage long back. Every atman the soul within while starting on cosmic journey initially manifests the form of an amoeba (single cell formation). This is the first manifestation... the first body taken by an atman the soul within. Subsequently we evolute into a multi-cell formation, then as insects, plants, animals and finally the stage of a human being. This total journey takes a total of 8.4 million manifestations... not a small journey by any measure!

This journey of 8.4 million manifestations normally requires 96.4 million earthly years. We reach the stage of a human being after having lived 7.3 million lives starting from an amoeba up to the stage of animal life. Thereafter even as a human being there are 1.1 million types of manifestations which one is required to undergo. Yet, as a human being we can always curtail cosmic journey and realize God within any life we desire. We may be passing through the stage of 7.4 millionth manifestation yet it is possible to curtail the journey and realize God.

It is as if we do not take the staircase up to the top of the building containing 8.4 million stairs... having crossed the barrier of animal life... every Human being can take the shortcut and catch the lift straight up to the top. This requires very severe austerities and penances to be performed. If we desire to cut short the journey of one million lives that would approximately mean 11 million earthly years then we require to act as Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana did. In whatever stage of manifestation Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana may have been... they cut short the journey and took the lift of their spiritual life straight up and realized God within their lifetime.

In whatever stage of manifestation as a human being we may be... we can always cut short the journey by following the path of jnana yoga. The path of jnana yoga entails practicing Neti (not this, not this) as practiced and advocated by Maharishi Ramana. While practicing Neti and establishing control over the five senses and the mind... we ultimately reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The Shavasana pose in yoga plays a very important role while pursuing self realization as a goal of life. Moments before we reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi we are also required to establish a permanent control on our sexual endeavors and we need to practice becoming a perfect celibate for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation.

It is only then our kundalini shall get awakened... the sooner the full awakening of Kundalini occurs and the sahastra puspa in our brain opens up fully... we realize God that very moment. And the moment we realize God... the complete wisdom contained in the cosmos becomes available to us on a permanent basis. We may have never read Bhagavad Gita or the Upanishads yet, whatever is contained in Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads becomes like ABCD to us. It is as if we had written the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads in our earlier manifestations of life. It is a feeling beyond ecstasy... it is the stage of pure bliss... it is this stage when we come across God face-to-face on a permanent basis.

Now onwards we can have a communion with God every moment of our life... it is not like that we have a darshan of God for a few moments and then everything is back to normal as happens with most human beings on Mother Earth. Everyone experiences the power of God every now and then but this experience of power is very intermittent and for very short periods of time. Only after reaching the stage of self realization that one can communicate with God every second of his life. It is a feeling that can never be expressed in words for we have transgressed the domain of senses and the mind.

Having realized God one becomes a pure Atman soul... all dross having removed... our atman the soul within gains back its pristine glorious form. It is like reaching the Mount Everest of the spiritual life. Edmund Hillary was right when he stated, "the moment he reached the top of the Mount Everest he was the saddest person for there was nowhere else to go further. He had climbed the highest mountain peak on Mother Earth... he had reached the pinnacle of his career".

Having realized God one retains the body so that one can disseminate the wisdom contained in the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads to the masses. This is the one and only reason why god realized souls continue living after having realized God. Having reached the 8.4 millionth manifestation... the cosmic life itself has come to an end. There is no further manifestation for our atman the soul within... from this stage we can but attain salvation (moksha in Hinduism) and finally reach Vaikuntha (the abode of God... known as the kingdom of God in Christianity).

I have enumerated the advantages and the pitfalls one shall face while proceeding on the path of self realization. It is up to you to decide whether you want to pursue this goal of life or not. In the present scientific age it is also not necessary that we need to go to the jungles (deep dense forests) searching for a forlorn place wherein we could meditate in silence. In the present Kali Yuga one can definitely achieve god realization even while living the life of a Grihastha (Family man). It was only in the earlier years when science was not that developed that people ventured into unaccustomed areas searching for a place of solitude.

During those days... it was really difficult for one to have practiced Spirituality even while living in the family. As science had not yet developed much... everyone was required to work hard physically. In the Spiritual domain we are required to think and work more and more mentally than physical. It was just not possible to maintain a balance between the two during those days. However best we may have desired to pursue the Spiritual goal of life... we always needed the presence of a Spiritual master and in those days... true Spiritual masters resided in forlorn and places of solitude.

Nowadays we have everything compiled in form of books. It is only up to us how we can gather the pearls of wisdom contained therein. We may or may not get a Spiritual master these days yet, one can always realize God taking God Almighty himself as the Spiritual master. This is possible as happened in the case of Eklavya... one who desired to learn archery from the best master available in those times Guru Dronacharya. As Eklavya belonged to a lower caste... guru Dronacharya who desired Arjuna to excel in archery bluntly refused Eklavya to accept him as his pupil.

After having failed all attempts, Eklavya did not become disheartened. He made a clay replica of Guru Dronacharya and practiced archery. He became the best archer of his time even excelling Arjuna. The moment guru Dronacharya learnt of this he asked Eklavya for guru Dakshina (guru Dakshina is the obeisance paid by a pupil to his master for the teachings imparted for in those times there was nothing like fees which a pupil was required to pay to his master regularly... in the guru Shishya parampara... the student is required to pay guru Dakshina at the end of the studies... never before).

In the case of Eklavya as the teachings were never imparted by guru Dronacharya yet he asked for guru Dakshina as Eklavya had made a clay replica of his and had become the best archer of his time. And in form of guru Dakshina, guru Dronacharya desired Eklavya to cut his right thumb and present it to his master! Guru Dronacharya knew very well that without a thumb one could not practice archery any further. What a shame for a Guru like guru Dronacharya who never wanted anyone to get ahead of Arjuna, his best pupil in the field of archery and hence the wrong desire.

Guru Dronacharya ultimately suffered for his folly in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. To compensate for his folly guru Dronacharya had to lay his life in the battlefield owing to a small illusion created by Lord Krishna. When an elephant by the name of ashwathama died in the battlefield and knowing well that Yudhistra spoke truth and only truth all the time... guru Dronacharya enquired of Yudhistra who had died... Yudhistra shouted, "Elephant (in a very low voice) ashwathama had died". On hearing this that "ashwathama his dear son had died" Guru Dronacharya left his mortal frame there and then.

Our complete life is governed by the Karma we perform. We reap what we sow... nothing more or less! Whatever be our Karma in present life... we shall always face the fruits of our Karma in the present or the future lives. If we desire to gain Punya... we definitely need to practice Punya Karma. Practicing sinful acts we cannot absolve our selves from gaining papa Karma that shall ultimately lead us to the domains of hell (Naraka in Hinduism).

Desire of being able to look back into your past lives... is the silliest thing any Human being can ever expect in this life. If you would come to know that your mother in present life killed you in one of your past lives then what would be the result in present life. Furthermore, if you come to know that your best friend in present life was the reason that your life was cut short in the immediate previous life then what would be your reaction? Would you not try to avenge the wrong doings of past lives? Would you be able to still trust your mother or your friend?

If I desire to travel to Bombay from New Delhi (travel from the stage of an amoeba up to the stage of 8.4 millionth manifestation)... and having reached the destination is there a plausible reason why we require looking back in life. Having realized God why would anyone want to go back into the past life even if there was a plausible reason. If God has desired people could travel back in time then it would have been a reality. It was not so. God never desired one to pursue the past... come whatever may we can never travel into the past nor can change the past. Whatever has happened is history and should be forgotten forever. Yet, we have the power to mould our Karma in present life in a fashion that we can always penance for the wrong deeds done in the past.

If we have wronged someone in the past and we are yet to face the fruits of our actions of the past life... then we can always absolve our selves by practicing austere measures and nullifying the effect of the papa Karma of past lives. The sum total of all the residual Karma of past lives of which we have yet to reap the fruits... is known as prarabdha Karma in Hinduism. And this prarabdha Karma can either be positive or negative in nature depending on the Karma of our past lives.

If the balance of prarabdha Karma is positive in nature and we have to reap the positive fruits of life in present life then it is possible that we might be lucky and are rewarded with a jackpot... in an instant we can become from an ordinary mortal to a famous person... one who is materialistically full of riches. Alternatively, if we have the balance prarabdha Karma of a negative nature then it is just possible that we may die an untimely death or face some other calamity which is just beyond our control. There are mantras to get out of the clutches of the negative prarabdha Karma... In other words we can nullify the negative effect of the bad Karma of past lives... it is only a few years from now that I shall be detailing these mantras in form of e-books I shall be publishing as time passes by and the society becomes more receptive to such Spiritual wisdom.

In a nutshell you are the best judge of your own destiny... form a goal of life which is not out of any compulsion or binding. Spend some time before you arrive at a decision. Consult your inner self... your atman the soul within... the sweet small inner voice of our Atman soul which seems to come from within us and always guides us on the right path. Also consult your seniors in whom you can place your trust. Even juniors can sometimes become guide of our lives. Once a firm decision has been taken... the journey of life is already half complete.

Thereafter if you decide to pursue self realization as the Spiritual goal of your life... practice Neti, and adopting the Shavasana pose... meditate on the Almighty God, the Creator of the cosmos. Practice absolute celibacy for a continuous minimum period of 12 years. Establish absolute control over the five senses and the mind... and it is not far from now that you shall realize God within this life.

Full text of query: It is very pleasant and thrilling to know somebody who has realised God and even more so to know that he is ready to clarify my doubts. Please forgive me if anything in this letter is inappropriate. For some time, I am also feeling that God Realisation is the real goal of Human life. And I want to do it in the present life. I don't know exactly why but I feel that for doing that I must must go to a place in solitude without any disturbance and meditate until the goal is achieved.

But honestly speaking there is still a sort of fear or concern for my parents, society fear of failure etc. I am sure you must be now aware of all your past lives. Can I be reminded of my past lives so that I appreciate all the effort that I have already made to come upto this stage even, and now I must end this journey? What do you think is the shortest and best possible way to realise God? And finally, what do you think of me? back to self realization center fellowship

Query: How do we Recognize a Truly God Realized Person?

Vijay Kumar:
Putting yourself in the place of a judge without reaching the stage of self realization is something like giving your final decisions even before having come to a conclusion. Not aware of the actual circumstances... dwelling on your judgmental powers which are governed by our intellect alone can never be the guide on the path of spirituality.

Spirituality is primarily governed by our inner self, our atman the soul within. On the contrary every Jiva... all living beings including all human beings are governed by our intellect (Buddhi in Hinduism). Our intellect is a physical property... it is directly related to the knowledge gained by us as we proceed ahead in the journey of life. The level of intellect present in every being is directly related to our willingness to learn more and more of the system surrounding us. The intellect within every person... the intelligence is directly related to the maturity one achieves while proceeding on the journey of life. Einstein had a very developed intellect as compared to normal human beings. Why?

Our intellect is not the least related to our atman the soul within residing in our heart. Every human being at any given moment of time is guided by either our intellect or the voice of our atman the soul within. For a normal Human being it is not only difficult but also rather impossible to distinguish between the two. Only people having a true strength of character and who are willing to proceed ahead on the journey of life by using only truthful means can distinguish between the two.

People who lie every moment of life can never be the true seekers of God. In the present World above 99.99 percent people spend their life taking the shelter of lies every now and then. We have to tread the path of truthfulness alone if we really desire to become a true seeker of Spirituality. In the circumstances how can we expect one to hear the sweet small inner voice... the voice of our atman the soul within!

As a true seeker of Spirituality one who merely understands the literary meaning of self realization can never decide upon whether the other is self realized or not. It is not within his competence to become a judge of the situation. It is not supposed to be! Had anyone else other than Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharishi Ramana realized God in their lifetimes... so much fame and literature would have accompanied this person world-wide that it would not have remained undisclosed until now.

The moment a flower blooms... its sweet fragrance spreads all over and everyone comes to know that a flower has bloomed. Similar is the case with God realized souls... they cannot keep the community away for long... one day or the other the facts would disclose themselves to the community in its own way. One really needs to reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi to realize that the other person across the street is God realized... never before! It can never be.

Your thinking that you considered so and so saint to be God realized is only prompted by your intellect and not your atman the soul within. Based on whatever knowledge you have gained until now in your journey of life... and whatever be your definition of self realization... you may have felt that the other is God realized. In truth, we need to reach the level of a God realized person to judge the other. God realization truly speaking is the other word for gaining enlightenment (Kaivalya in Hinduism and Jainism).

To lie is something normal human beings can never do without. In the present Materialistic World it has become far more essential to be a top-notch liar to succeed in life (I know it is an anomaly but the truth spread far and wide in the society cannot be denied). The more bigger a liar... the more intelligent one is considered to be in the present World. One who confidently says, "He does not lie" either is a saint of the highest order or one who lives in an allusion of his own making. We need to understand that every Human being is imbibed with impurities. Had it not been so... the manifestation of body by atman the soul within would not have been required at all.

Our existence as a human being makes it implicitly clear that we are far away from the Spiritual goal of life. Unless we shed the dross within... our atman the soul within shall not be able to gain its pristine pure form. Treating ourselves as one who is impure from within... we have to rise above the platform of senses and the mind. It is not that the senses and the mind are a commodity that can be taken control of.

It is as if having taken the control of a wild horse... We have to worry about riding it? If we need to milk a buffalo... we need to own it. It is not that we can get hold of the milk without owning the buffalo or paying a price for it. It is just not possible that one takes absolute control of senses and the mind and is not able to reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The sooner one is able to control the senses and the mind... the final goal of the spiritual life is very near.

In a total of 6000 million people... how many people do you think are able to establish absolute control over the senses and the mind... it would not exceed one or two persons at the most. Taking absolute control of senses and the mind is not a joke. God has made 1.1 million manifestations (a journey of about 12.1 million earthly years) for one to cross over the ocean of Samsara as a human being alone. What was the need for God to create so many manifestations? God could have reduced the total cosmic journey from 96.4 million years to about hundred years!

Then the question would arise... why at all the creation of the cosmos? Everything should have remained as it is. But, in the cosmic system... nothing remains stagnant (inactive) for long... for everything that forms the basis of the cosmos itself is active energy. Everything in whole Cosmos is bubbling with vital energy within. We may remain totally idle but multitudes of thoughts enter our brain every moment of life. Why so? The prime reason being that our atman the soul within is a source of active energy.

We may like to do or not... we have to perform our Karma and none in whole Cosmos can escape it. Merely sitting idle does not mean one has escaped Karma. One can escape doing physical work but not the Karma. The flow of thoughts unto our brain is a continuous process...whether we desire it or not!

The shortcut in the Spiritual goal of life is meant for one who can realize God within his lifetime. It is only one or two persons alone in the whole of Humanity consisting of 6000 million people that one is able to realize God within a span of hundred years or so. The path of self realization is not meant for commercially minded people... one who searches for shortcuts in the journey of life.

We are what we are. We are not supposed to question the domain of God. Why he created the Cosmos at all... why he left the total Humanity to suffer and that to at the hands of God Almighty! Why does god not take pity on his suffering children? If everything in the system of God is orderly planned then why create sufferings at all?

Every single cause in the system of God has its explanation... a logical conclusion! The total system cannot survive even if one single act was missing. Everything existing in the cosmos is perfect on its own. It is only our ignorance that we do not get to the right explanation and the reason why that shortcuts are prohibited. As a student of class two is prohibited to take a shortcut to class seven... similarly, in the Spiritual domain it is not the desire of God or the seeker that helps but it is the will of the seeker which ultimately plays the dominant role.

Everyone in the system who comes first in a race knows well before that he shall come first. Even before having won the medal... the successful candidate is always prompted from within that he shall be the winner. We do not have to look elsewhere... there is a mini Cosmos within us in form of our atman the soul within... whether we are competent to gain self realization in the present life or not is already known to our atman the soul within... we need to sincerely and truthfully be able to hear that sweet small inner voice.

You fail to understand the definition of faith. Faith is not something that is inherited while proceeding on the journey of life. Either one has it or is devoid of it. Faith always comes from within... faith in the Almighty God does not generate because of the promptings of our seniors, household members or our Spiritual preachers. It always exists within every individual being. If someone does not have absolute faith in the system of God... then one is quite below on the ladder of Spirituality compared to one who has absolute faith in the system of God. Faith is not a mere expression! Whether one has absolute faith in the system of God or not reflects in ones working... the truth always prevails in the end.

No Human being can ever develop faith. It is only a few individuals in the history of mankind who were able to cut the shackles of senses and the mind and a transformation occurred in such human beings. The sage Veda Vyasa was one of them... the only person in the history of Hinduism who was able to interpret and write the commentary on Bhagavad Gita. The present original form of Bhagavad Gita which is available with Gita press, Gorakhpur, India... the first document relating to the famous discourse of Lord Sri Krishna to Pandava King Arjuna in the battlefield of Mahabharata was composed by the great sage Veda Vyasa.

Before becoming the famous Veda Vyasa... this person was a dreaded criminal... one who used to kill people without a worthwhile cause? The moment he came across a sage of the level of Gautama Buddha... his total thinking abruptly changed. He became a sincere seeker of Spirituality from then on. For normal human beings such a change is normally not possible. It is only in very adverse circumstances that the whole thinking pattern of a human being gets grinded to a halt. And from now onwards the total personality of this person changes. One is a totally reformed person from now onwards.

Faith is not a commodity that can be bought with a price. Our total Karma of the previous lives decides whether in present life we faith in the God or not. Nothing can change this order. If I have been born in a Jain family it is only because of the balance residual Karma of my past lives. The beggar on the street is not a creation of one-day. He took birth in the house of a beggar only because of the residual Karma of past lives.

Having been born as a beggar we can definitely look forward to rising high above on the platform of spiritual life. This is possible but to revert back to the past lives is just not possible. Whoever desires to look into the past is a purely commercial person. Such a one is not meant to proceed on the path of spirituality at all. Such a one has to take a really long journey before one can be born as one who has absolute faith in the system of God. Only then one can travel the Spiritual journey of life comfortably.

Talking to one of my friends... a follower of Punjabi culture (eat, drink and be merry!)... Who regularly visits Haridwar (the holy city of Ganga, the Ganges river) on most weekends once narrated the cause of his so frequent a visit to Haridwar... we commit sins for the six days while performing our business and on the seventh day we visit Haridwar and take a dip in the holy Ganges to wash away all our inherited sins... how easily said and done!

Is this the goal of life of one who wants to proceed on the path of pure Spirituality? Can such a one be trusted by God to hold the reign of total Humanity? It can never be. It is only those rare specimens of Humanity (mankind at large) like the ones of Ramakrishna Paramhansa who become the pillar of light for the ailing society as a whole. And what type of person Ramakrishna Paramhansa was?

At the peak of his spiritual life when Ramakrishna Paramhansa realized that soul the atman within every being (not human beings alone) is of the same nature... he started treating human beings, animals and other forms of life the same. It so happened one-day that a stray dog ventured into the kitchen of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and the moment he noticed some chapatis lying there... he clutched some in his mouth and ran away.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa who was watching the whole incident could not bear that the stray dog... a child of God must eat the raw chapati lest he choke himself. The chapatis in India are normally eaten after splashing them with a stroke of Ghee (skimmed butter). Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa immediately took a long spoon filled with Ghee and ran towards the dog.

This stray dog on seeing that the master is running after him for having stolen the chapatis and that too with a Batten in hand ran even faster. Now, what was the message conveyed to the general public at large on seeing such a sight. People thought that Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa had gone berserk and children even threw stones at him taking him to be an insane person. Was there any one living in times of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa who could have judged the intelligence of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa. There was none equivalent to him in mental capability. He had risen above the logistics of senses and the mind. He had become a free atman the soul within.

This continued for a period of more than two years. A normal Human being would not be able to survive such an onslaught... but for Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa who was deeply immersed in the thoughts of God all the time... the surrounding happenings mattered least! He was totally oblivious rather unaware of such Worldly happenings. It is only those of the likes of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa who realize God one-day.

While proceeding on the path of the Spirituality we also need to understand that we are not supposed to do charity from within our necessary wants. Only when we have excess of anything... we can spare some for the needy. Never otherwise! Most charity on Mother Earth these days is primarily considered as a token of supremacy of one over the other. One who donates a bigger sum is given more weightage in the society.

You say... you have chosen to become one with God as the goal of your life! One who does not have absolute faith in the system of God... can he be considered even a student of the path of spirituality. No! Such a one desires commercial dealings in the system of God. The discussion on shortcuts, reducing the period of practicing celibacy, wanting to look into the past... not wanting to accept the laid down scriptural facts are some of the factors which have already delivered the judgment. You have failed to pass even the basics on the path of spirituality.

You need to reassess your goal of life. Try to proceed on the path of spirituality even while performing your Karma and living your day-to-day life... it is only very slowly when the truth ultimately dawns upon you that you shall be able to truthfully tread the path of spirituality. The truth that in the system of God we are not supposed to question him... we are what we are... we are for we have earned it owing to our Karma of the previous lives. If we need to cut our shackles and take the shortcut to the Spiritual goal of life... we need to have hundred percent faith in the system of God... Only then the pearls of wisdom become more clear to us and lead up straight the ladder of Spirituality!

As much as there is positive in the Cosmos... we have an equivalent negative. The positive can be summed up as living in swarga (Heaven) whereas the negative can be summed up as living in Naraka (hell)... to think why God gave us sufferings and himself does not interfere in our lives even though we are a creation of his... is indirectly blaming God for his system. We are not supposed to question God Almighty! The moment one reaches the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... every aspect of cosmic life becomes so crystal clear to us that the reason for queries subsides forever.

Traveling the path of spirituality is like proceeding on a path with undefined parameters... as many human beings... as many paths! No two human beings can have the same path. One travels the uncharted territory of the Spiritual path with absolute faith in the system of God... Only then the pearls of wisdom keep showering upon us. Slowly and gradually one by one our queries within start dissolving and eventually we establish absolute control over the senses and the mind.

Talking of mantras... no mantra is ever given by a Spiritual master to a Shishya (student) of Spirituality unless and until one has reached a certain level. Just by distributing books of class four to a student of class two... can we expect this student to digest the contents of the book meant for class four? The Spiritual master always gives mantra at an appropriate time. No student is ever required to ask for the same. Only an ignorant seeker of Spirituality would desire seeking a mantra.

In the history of Hinduism whenever any student... an earnest seeker of Spirituality reaches a particular level did the master on his own showered upon the student the critical part of spiritual life in form of a mantra. No force or pressure can ever be applied to gain a mantra. Mantra is not something that can be gained by force. It is only in our physical World... the present Materialistic World that one can take hold of many things by force. In the Spiritual realm such a thing is never possible. To exercise the magic of a mantra... one needs to rise up to a certain level on the Spiritual platform.

It is like wanting to view the whole of New York from the fourth story of Empire State building. We all know that to have a full glimpse of New York we need to rise higher up to the top of the building... the eightieth floor or above. Wants and desires carry no meaning in the field of Spirituality. In simpler words one who desires to proceed on the path of pure Spirituality needs to sublimate his ego on the altar of God. It is only when we surrender fully that God takes care of us while proceeding on the path of spirituality.

Meaning of meditation has been detailed by me in many queries on my website. More on meditation here- meditation

In a nutshell meditation is the English phrase for yoga. And yoga is derived from yog. In Hindi yog means the process of assimilating one with other. In other words two yog two is equivalent to four. The effort of atman the soul within to combine with Parmatman (the super soul) is known as yoga. And Yoga is the means by which Spiritual masters of the yester era were able to complete their Spiritual journeys at a faster pace.

Without yoga (meditation) no Human being can rightly proceed on the path of spirituality. Yoga is best practiced in form of jnana yoga . And what does jnana yoga mean? Following the path of Neti (not this, not this) as advocated and preached by Maharishi Ramana is the shortcut on the path of spirituality for finding God Almighty. Meditation (yoga in other words) is the means by which one is able to establish control over the senses and the mind so that the flow of random thoughts through the brain every second of life becomes stilled. This is a stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi.

Best way to practice meditation (yoga) is trying to negate every query within us. As the queries within us go on dissolving... there comes a stage when we shall have no further query within us. This is the culmination of spiritual life... the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The Shavasana posture in yogic exercises primarily helps one in practicing Neti to its full bloom. The Shavasana pose in yoga assists one in practicing pranayama and Neti simultaneously. This posture in yoga also relaxes the body to its extreme as is required for proper meditation.

In the field of Spirituality one has to practice sufficiently to understand the hidden underlying meaning of words in the Scriptures. A cursory glance by me on the writings of a Spiritual master makes it clear whether one is god realized or not. I need not go to the website of religious organization you are refereeing but it is for sure that none in the organization has the realized God. Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa of the modern times wherever he may be on Mother Earth... the fragrance of his wisdom reaches every corner of the World. It is not the knowledge of the books which count but... the wisdom of the ages... the essence of Bhagavad Gita which makes the complete cosmic system crystal clear.

Some of the paras above may seem like vials of poison but the truth... the absolute truth is more critical in the present Materialistic World. None in the cosmic structure is at a lower or a higher level... everyone belongs to his own class... we need to excel in our class and forget about the class above or lower than us. Only then we can maintain our sanity and wisdom. Life is like that... it is a journey and not a destination! We need to live life as it is meant to be... not as we desire to live (quoted in the materialistic context).

If I need to go from New Delhi to Bombay... and having reached the destination... what would be my interest in knowing about the quality of marble used in Taj Mahal. This monument lies on way from New Delhi to Bombay does not mean we try to go into the details of everything we come across. We are only supposed to indulge in activities conforming to our goal of life. Having realized God does not mean that I need to indulge in every activity happening on Mother Earth. I get repeated queries by the day that having realized God I would be able to know the past and future of every Human being.

Yes, it is true that as a god realized person I can know for sure about the past and the future of a human being but that would amount to commercialization of highest form of Spirituality. This is just prohibited in the domain of God. You are able to send me queries... long ones indeed and the replies are self-explanatory... everything comes to you without a cost. Why? Because of the prime reason that I am not supposed to be charging anything for disseminating the wisdom contained in the Bhagavad Gita... the truth behind all Scriptural texts existing on Mother Earth.

Only few human beings who have not been able to digest why I am not charging my fees in the present Materialistic World support me with a donation on the following page... it does help sometimes! World Wide Center For Self Realization

We also need to understand that everything existing in the cosmic system can be invoked by the power of Shruti... if I need to know whether Acharya Rajneesh (aka osho) was self realized or not I just need to go to the frequency on which Acharya Rajneesh (aka osho) lived and everything which has passed through the life of Acharya Rajneesh (aka osho) would be reflected to me as if I was seeing a motion movie.

I am presently located at a somewhat higher level than the total mankind... and if at any subordinate stage... one makes efforts in realizing God... the mental waves of that person would automatically get reflected to me. It happens many a times in life that even before our subordinate working in office opens his mouth... we know for sure what one is wanting to talk about.

I shall only be glad to reply to your queries but please avoid repetition of all queries of commercial nature. Even religion and Spirituality mean different... treading the path of pure Spirituality is like trying to walk on a row of spearheads and that too poisoned! Most people in this World follow the path of religion and not Spirituality. The journey for seekers of Spirituality is long but stable... one never knows when the grace of God shall shower upon us and we are blessed with Kaivalya Jnana (absolute wisdom) at the end.

Full text of query: You have referred to the voice from Atman. When I had come in contact with one of the personalities I had named in my earlier mail, my inner voice had said that he is God Realized soul but now you are saying that they are not so how do you say"Our Atman always prompts one on the right path"? As you remarked in your previous mail, there are many so called Spiritual masters and pundits but a truely realized soul will never refer to any document or scriptures as everything is known to him. Then why do you say "as far as I have read through his literature" about Acharya Rajneesh?

About developing faith, I thought knowing about my past lives could be one source which can strengthen my faith in its roots but you are saying thats not permitted. Can I have some other source like this which strengthens my faith in the system of God? (I mean can I have some practical experience?) I agree with you that the benificiary of the charity is also questionable but there are so many genuinely needy persons in the World or even in my city that my all wealth will be exhausted in helping them. Does it mean that I should do like this? Why do you so much stress upon celibacy of strictly 12 years?

As you say in this Human life we, can take the shortcut. So if somebody is able to control his senses and mind in less time, would he still be stranded in the path till 12years complete? Why is the divine seeing as an indifferent observer innocent seekers being duped by such false masters? In the system of god, is there no care for sincere seekers? My goal is fixed and that is complete ONENESS with God and it has been quite a long about this decision. I am ready to renounce all Worldly pleasurs for that. The only thing I am confused about is the method to adopt to realise my goal as soon as possible. What method do you recommend. Meditation in Shavasana? or in sitting posture? and what do YOU mean by meditation because different people have different menaings for this word.

As you said, we take manifestations to only undergo the effect of our Karma and so that we can realize God. And also that there are some mantras to cleanse negative Karma. Are there any mantras to cleanse both positive and negative Karma so that nothing is left and our journey is completed? And why don't you disclose those mantras to people who are ready to accept them? Do you think that had you been under the guidance of a realized soul, your progress would have been quicker?OR can you answer the same question with regard to me? God Realization

Query: God Realization: What it feels like? What happens on Merging of Jivatma Within Paramatma!

Vijay Kumar:
The process of God realization is best understood having learnt the true wisdom behind cosmic journey of our atman the soul within that is expected to pass through a series of manifestations (a total of 8.4 million manifestations in all and a cosmic life cycle of 96.4 million earthly years).

Here we need to understand that it is atman the soul within that has taken the body and not vice versa. And why this atman the soul within takes a body will be clear from the following narration.

Sooner a Cosmos (a new cosmos) starts with a big bang (all Atmans contained in the Cosmos get scattered). Traveling at unimaginable speeds they spread out in every direction. On this cosmic journey these pure Atmans collect impurities and to remove these impurities (the dross contained within) these atmans have to manifest a body again and again until they come back to their pristine pure original form.

We also need to learn that the total of all purified atmans in the cosmos is what we call God Almighty. One grain of sand is an Atman and the collective mound the Parmatman. The saying, "God is everywhere" holds good because of this anomaly. In essence every Atman is but a minuscule form of Parmatman... the very Atman that exists in the body of every living being (a Jiva in Hinduism).

We also need to understand why the Cosmos starts with a big bang. At the time of collapse of the cosmos (the dissolution of cosmos)... the entire cosmos is but reduced to the size of half a thumb... this is clearly narrated in Bhagavad Gita... the cosmic wisdom which flowed from Lord Krishna to Humanity. And what this half the size of a thumb is... it is the definition of God Almighty... the sum total of all purified atmans in the cosmos at a given moment of time is equivalent to half a thumb.

Because this powerful energy is unable to hold for a longer time, it again explodes with a big bang resulting in the start of a new cosmos and a new journey by all atmans (souls). The impurities that get attached to every atman soul while on its cosmic journey is in form of dross contained within. The process of mining best explains this phenomenon.

Suppose there is one KG of gold in a lump of hundred KG of gold ore. For purifying this one KG of pure gold we need to remove the 99% impurities contained therein. And for this purification to occur... the ore is passed through a series of mining processes and slowly this lump reduces to 90 KG that means there is one KG of pure gold in 90 KG of gold ore. Subsequently this one KG of pure gold exists in a lump of 75 KG, 60 KG and 50 KG and finally we have one KG of pure gold. The 99% dross contained within having removed... this pure Atman has come back to its original pristine pure form.

This one KG of gold ever existed in the hundred KG of gold ore and also in 75 KG, 60 KG, 50 KG and so on. Likewise, the impure Atman soul proceeds on its journey of various manifestations until the complete dross is removed from within. Having started the first journey as amoeba (single cell formation) the first in the series of manifestations, then a multi-cell formation, then insect life, plant life, animal life and finally the form of a human being.

The sooner the form of a human being is reached by atman the soul within... it has already crossed the threshold of 7.3 million manifestations in various forms starting from amoeba to the animal form. The form of a human being itself consists of 1.1 million manifestations. It is at this stage in form of a human being that any atman the soul within can realize God. And in a nutshell God realization means the culmination of all we call as the journey of soul the atman within and which has come to an end forever.

Having liberated itself from the cycle of birth and death forever, this Atman becomes immortal... it need not manifest a body again... it reaches the stage of Kaivalya Jnana (omniscience) and finally salvation (moksha in Hinduism). Self-Realization is a different nomenclature for enlightenment. All the stages are the same. It is just like one has reached the journey in a Rajdhani or a bullet train and other in an ordinary express train. Both have reached the same destination by different means. Having realized God... both shall gain salvation (moksha in Hinduism) within their lifetime.

Having merged our identity with that of Parmatman... the body loses its meaning... one becomes a pure Atman (a pure soul). Having crossed the threshold of senses and the mind and reaching the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi by practicing Neti (as practiced and advocated by Ramana Maharishi) one can now understand Bhagavad Gita like ABCD. One may not have read the Bhagavad Gita once but whatever is contained in the total cosmic wisdom available on Mother Earth in various scriptures is clear like ABCD.

In other words one has reached the source of all wisdom Jnana contained in the cosmos. After having realized God the only option available to the god realized soul is either to attain salvation (moksha in Hinduism) or continue with the body so that one can disseminate to the ailing mankind the wisdom of the cosmos and leave the body only at the opportune time. This was the path taken by Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and also Maharishi Ramana... the only two persons who have realized God in the last 150 years.

Having merged my identity with God Almighty... I am also following the path of Mahavira. Having gained enlightenment at the ripe age of 42 years... he continued giving discourses for a total of 30 years. It was only at the age of 72 that Mahavira left his body never to return again. While living in Grihastha Ashram it is very difficult to reach the stage of self realization but it is not impossible. The will to have a darshan of God in the present life paved the way for the ultimate goal.

In present times (the scientific age) it is not necessary for one to leave the precincts of the family and go to deep dense forests in search of wisdom of the cosmos. In earlier times that sages normally resided in deep dense secluded areas and to gain the cosmic jnana one needed to go to the ashram of a self realized Sage. Only if one truly desired learning the cosmic wisdom did one take leave of the family... never otherwise.

One had to become a dedicated pupil like the famous singer and mystic Kabir Das and many others including Veda Vyasa (who reduced the preaching's of Avatar of the era Lord Krisna as the doctrine of Bhagavad Gita... now available to the mankind) to learn of the cosmic wisdom. Mere desires and wishes of the seeker carried no meaning for it was the prerogative of the teacher whether he accepted the pupil or not and never otherwise.

Having realized God until taking Moksha Salvation does not mean the body does not feel pleasure or pain but having seen the light of the Sun... the essence of the energy of the bulb and the candle lose its meaning. Once purified is purified forever. Whenever silver is separated from the silver ore and left for a while in the open it becomes black. The silver lump having reacted with air oxidizes and becomes black. This temporary coating gets removed the moment the silver is polished being a purely temporary phenomenon.

Similarly, every godrealised being retains a temporary small impurity within without which atman the soul within would immediately gain full purity and leave for the heavenly abode (Vaikuntha in Hinduism and the kingdom of heaven as defined in Christianity). The love for food making Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa exercised was only the part of impurity he maintained within without which his atman the soul within would have left the body untimely.

To sum up all... the journey by a human being, the highest manifestation in the life of an atman the soul within is the loveliest of all... one carries within him the seed of becoming a man god like Bhagwan Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed. These are the levels that can be reached by any Human being... in whatever stage of life one may be. One may be born a beggar yet one can realize God and the other a king but because of his lowly actions may not be able to realize the ultimate goal in spite of ones best efforts.

I would like to clarify here the reference every now and then I am making about him or his... never her. Because of the deep feelings of motherhood imbibed in our fair companions the path of God realization is not meant for them. The deep sense of attachments (moha in Hinduism) these ladies have within themselves towards one and all and particularly children is unparalleled and makes the path of God realization for them virtually unattainable.

In the total history of mankind only two ladies have been able to realize God till date. One is Gargi who indulged herself in the famous dialogues on sex with the famous pundit Mandan Mishra and defeated him. The famous Gargi College in New Delhi, India is reminiscent of her achievements in life. Every lady is required to take birth as a he before she can realize God.

The other was Maitreyi, the famous wife of Sage Jnanavalakya (the writer of Jnanavalakya Upanishad) who was determined to realize God within her lifetime. As Sage Jnanavalakya was a god realized soul and knew about the pitfalls on traveling on the path of self realization by a lady made all efforts to persuade Maitreyi not to travel on the path but failed. Eventually he asked her to accompany him to the forlorn jungles in the end period of his life where Maitreyi eventually gained self realization. The Maitreyi College in New Delhi, India reminds us of the times of Sage Jnanavalakya and godrealized King Janaka, father of Sita in Ramayana.

Compared to Gargi and Maitreyi there are millions of men who realized God in their lifetimes during the periods of Mahavira and Gautama. As a human being we must never forget that the present life of 70 to 80 years is but an insignificant moment in the total life span of atman the soul within. We may try or not ultimately our atman the soul within shall reach the 8.4 millionth manifestation one-day.

May God bless you!
